Foreign nationals who obtain an associate degree or higher in Taiwan and, as new graduates receive approval to extend their residence from the National Immigration Agency (NIA), Ministry of the Interior, are permitted to work in Taiwan during the extended residence period without being required to apply for a work permit. They can engage in any category of work for a maximum of two years.

However, if in accordance with other laws the work undertaken requires professional qualification certification or registration to practice (e.g., doctors), overseas Chinese and foreign students are still required to obtain related qualifications before engaging in such work.
